HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University men’s basketball program has inked its second 2014-15 recruit with the signing of Heritage Hills High School standout Devon Merder.

With a stack of awards and honors already piled up from his first three years, Merder (Santa Claus, Ind.) is hoping his best is yet to come as he gets ready to kick-off his final campaign for the Patriots.

The 6-4 wing player led the Pocket Athletic Conference in scoring and rebounding last year with 17.9 ppg and 7.4 rpg. He also dished out 3.0 assists and swiped 2.0 steals per outing and as a result was a unanimous First Team All-Conference pick.

The two-time IBCA Top 100 pick also received All-State Honorable Mention accolades last season and was the only junior to be named First Team All-Area in addition to earning a spot on the Indiana Elite North vs. South All-Star game.

"We are excited about adding Devon to our 2014 recruiting class,” said head coach Ty Platt. “Devon is a very good athlete with a long wing span, is a very good shooter, can score in a variety of ways, and is an overall intelligent player.

He is also a tremendous individual. Devon is exactly the kind of student athlete that fits well with what Huntington University and Forester Basketball is all about. We think he will have a tremendous college career."

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. U.S.News & World Report ranks Huntington among the best colleges in the Midwest.
