HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced yesterday its 2012-13 Daktronics-NAIA Division II Men's and Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athletes and among the list of honorees were senior Lauren Meese and junior Shane Merryman.
Meese, HU’s four-year starting point guard, hails from Marion, Ind. (Oak Hill H.S.) and was one of 178 players from around the country selected for this honor. She will graduate this May with a degree in elementary and special education.
In addition to his success on the hardwood, Merryman (Fort Wayne, Ind., Carroll H.S.) has also excelled in the classroom as a physical education major. He joins 133 other NAIA Division II male peers named to the list of Scholar Athletes.
Student-athletes are nominated by their institution and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.
