McKinney named Forester Athlete of the Week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of April 28, 2014. Baseball senior Derek McKinney earned the honor for his outstanding effort last week.

McKinney, a native of Peru, Ind., picked up a pair of wins last week with his first coming against Goshen on Tuesday where he scattered seven hits and allowed just one run in the 11-1 debacle over the Maple Leafs.

On Saturday, the senior hurler threw a complete-game shutout in the Foresters’ 4-0 win over Grace. He allowed only three hits and three walks while striking out seven against the Lancers.

On the year, McKinney owns a 4-5 record and 2.88 earned run average in 68.2 innings.

Huntington (25-21, 19-13) wraps up its regular season today with a doubleheader against Grace at 2:00 p.m.
