Freshman Bethany McGraw hit the ground running in her debut as a member of the HU women's track team. Her four first place finishes helped lead the Foresters to victory in Huntington's Frozen Forest Invitational. She, along with sophomore Lucas Beach, also qualified for the NAIA indoor national meet held in March.
The women took the team title with 87 points followed by Marian College at 69 and Manchester at 56. McGraw qualified for the national meet with a winning 17-11 effort in the long jump. She also won the 55-meter dash in 7.50, the 300-meter dash in 45.82 and the triple jump with a leap of 32-10. Other top finishers included Colleen Knox (pole vault, 9-0), Jill Roughia (1600-meter run, 5:48), Emily Holliday (3200-meter run, 12:33.86) and Katie Crandall (55-meter hurdles, 9.37). HU also won the 3200-meter relay.
In men's action, Marian earned the team title with a score of 74 followed by the Foresters with 62 points and Manchester with 56. Beach, who made his NAIA qualifying toss of 52-3 to win the shot put, was joined by two other winners. Nick Johnson won the the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:49 and Aaron Mills turned in the best finish in the pole vault with his 12-0 mark. The men's 3200-meter relay also finished first.
