Christian Academy of Indiana standout Drew Mattingly has signed his national letter of intent to play soccer at Huntington University this coming fall. As a four-year varsity starter in goal, Drew amassed 24 career shutouts, was twice named to the First Team Indiana All District 5 and Indiana Academic All State teams and was a two-time team MVP. He was also named to the Indiana East/West All-Star team and was a two-time recipient of the Christian Leadership Award.

On the club scene, Drew has honed his skills with United 1996 FC Internationals based out of Louisville, Kentucky. His club team is currently ranked 2nd in the state and 35th nationally for the U18 age group. As a four-year member of United 1996, Drew has anchored the defensive unit to a State Cup Championship, MRL Championship and five National Showcase Tournaments.

“We’re excited to announce Drew as our first addition to the 2010 Forester roster. He is a gifted goal keeper who reads the game extremely well and controls his box,” said Huntington Coach Russ Lawson. “The elite competition Drew has experienced as a member of United 1996 has prepared him well for the physical demands and pace of collegiate soccer. He is a competitor and is going to battle every time he laces up his boots. Combine that with his intelligence and technical ability and we are confident Drew will have a very successful career at HU.”

As a high school honor student, Drew plans to enter Huntington University’s Pre-Med program. He is the son of Robert and Cindy Mattingly from Floyds Knobs, Indiana.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past twelve years, Huntington has produced 70 NAIA All-America honors and 186 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. U.S. News & World Report ranks Huntington among the best colleges in the Midwest.
