The Huntington University women’s soccer team has signed one of the top strikers from Northern California. Amanda Macahilig from Brentwood, California has signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her education and playing career as a Forester.

Macahilig transferred to Liberty High School for her final two years of high school. In her junior year, Macahilig led her team to the NCS finals and was named Second Team All-League. She was also voted most inspirational. In her senior season Macahilig once again led her team to the NCS finals and was All-League Honorable Mention. Macahilig, the starting striker for Delta Force, led her team to a league championship in 2008.

Macahilig has also been a familiar face in the California Olympic Development Program. She was named to the ODP district pool in 2006. In 2007, Macahilig was chosen to be a part of the ODP regional pool. This honor is given to the top 30 players in Northern California.

When Macahilig is away from soccer she has been a volunteer at a senior center and involved in Nature Club, kick boxing, and cross fit.

Macahilig, who plans on majoring in psychology said, “I chose HU because of the tight knit family atmosphere. After my visit I thought the campus was absolutely beautiful and I really liked the staff I met. The team and coaches were great, and I could totally see myself being a part of the soccer program. All around the school offers great opportunities for me to grow as a soccer player and a person. HU provides all the tools and resources I need to succeed, while having an awesome time doing it. I’m really looking forward to growing in my faith and getting involved in service for the community. I’m definitely looking forward to a whole new life experience at HU and am very excited about playing soccer, doing what I can to help the team succeed.”

“Having a player of this caliber commit to Huntington is huge for us. Macky is the type of player that will instantly make our team better,” said Coach Burgher. “We had a couple pieces that we absolutely had to get this off-season. Macky fills one of those roles because she is a true goal scorer that is going to give every team we play issues. Macky has the skill set be a complete game changer but combine her athletic ability with her work ethic, knowledge, and winner’s mentality and we just made a fantastic addition to our family.”

Amanda is the daughter of Dino and Arlene Macahilig.
