Huntington University women’s soccer coach Ryan Burgher announced the signing of another standout player from one of the elite high school programs in Indiana. Erin Lessing, a 2008 graduate from Homestead High School, will transfer to Huntington University to continue her soccer career after spending her freshman year at IUPUI.
While at Homestead, Lessing was a four-year starter and played an important role in helping lead the Spartans to three conference titles. As a senior, Lessing served as a team captain and was recognized for her high level of play by receiving the top team player award for the Homestead women’s team.
Lessing has also gained valuable experience in club soccer playing with the Fort Wayne Sports Club and the Fort Wayne Citadel. During her time in club, Lessing played for teams that won many different tournaments.
While at Homestead not only did Lessing excel on the field but she also excelled in the classroom. Lessing was an honor roll student and won the Science Achievement Award at Homestead.
Lessing who will be majoring in biology at Huntington said, “I chose Huntington because it is a small school with a great atmosphere. I could tell that school, family, and God come first. I’m looking forward to playing with the team and being in a small school again where I can focus on my studies.”
“I feel like Erin is going to be a great addition to our team on and off the field," said Coach Burgher. "She has competed at a high level and she knows the type of work ethic and mindset it takes to be successful. Erin is a tough defender who knows the game very well. I’m most excited about the type of leader she can be for the team. I’m expecting great things from Erin.”
