Lawson bolsters roster with signing of Strong

 001 Burke Strong

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University men’s soccer Coach Russ Lawson has announced that Speedway High School standout Burke Strong has signed a letter of intent to play at HU this fall.

Not only has Strong anchored the center of the park the past couple of seasons for the Sparkplugs, as a captain he has also played a vital role in guiding Speedway to the program’s first ever semi-state championship game.

All told Strong had a fantastic career amassing 22 goals and 39 assists for SHS. Burke also gained valuable experience and versatility playing his club soccer for Westside United.

“We are very excited that Burke will continue his career at Huntington,” says Lawson. “He is a hardnosed center mid who reads the game well and has the ability to distribute and generate offense.”

Off the field Strong has made a tremendous impact in the classroom and will enter Huntington University as a honor student. Burke is the son of Scott and Brenda Strong of Speedway, Ind.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
