Lakeland Christian Duo Chooses HU

Jeff Alter and Matt Boyer, seniors at Lakeview Christian High School, signed their letters of intent to play soccer at Huntington University. Huntington is a 4-year Christian liberal arts university located in Huntington, Indiana with an enrollment of approximately 950 students.
Boyer, the Lions goalkeeper, was named the team's Defensive MVP following an undefeated regular season and a 15-1-3 mark in 2005. Boyer set school records for saves in a match (14) and a season (106) He was named to the All-Midland Athletic Conference team and was named Top Team Player in the state of Indiana for 2005. He finished the year ranked as the fifth best goalie in the state with eight shutouts.

“Matt Boyer has a tremendous upside,” said Russ Lawson, head soccer coach at Huntington. “His physical makeup and determination should lead to a fine career at HU. Matt’s size and ability to control his box will be a welcomed addition to the Forestors. What impresses me the most about Matt is that he is a competitor with quick, soft hands and those are two attributes you must have if your defense is to be successful.” Boyer plans to study Business at Huntington University. He is the son of John and Carol Boyer of Converse.

Alter set a school record for assists in a season in 2005 with 21 which also ranked him third in the state for assists. He was co-Offensive MVP for the Lions and made the All-MAC team. Alter was also named to the Academic All-State team.

“Jeff is a quality individual with offensive abilities,” says Lawson. “As he adjusts to a faster and more physical game he should push our midfielders for playing time. Jeff’s composure on the ball and his awareness on the field, leads me to believe that Jeff will ultimately make a great impact as a student-athlete at HU.” He plans to study Recreation and Sports Ministry at Huntington. He is the son of Jeff and Kay Alter, Marion.

Boyer and Alter are part of a senior class that compiled a record of 60-6-5 in its four years with Lakeview Christian which included one sectional championship, one sectional runner-up, four conference season titles and four conference tournament championships.
