The Foresters (18-12) took on the Warriors of Indiana Tech in a non-conference match-up and fell 15-9 in the nine-inning contest.
After trading runs over the first two innings, the Warriors took charge of the game with seven runs in the third inning. Tech catcher Gordon Murphy delivered the first big blow with a two-out grand slam followed by a two-run blast by Brendan Sontag two batters later. HU got a pair back in the bottom of the frame, but then traded runs with the Warriors in the fifth and sixth which allowed Tech to remain comfortably in front.
With a run in the bottom of the seventh, the Foresters pulled within three at 12-9, but the Warriors put the game away with three more runs in the top of the ninth.
"We swung the bat well," said Coach Mike Frame. "You score nine runs in a ballgame and you expect to win. We just weren't strong enough on the mound."
Freshmen pitchers Anthony Roth and Will Barone combined to give up 12 runs on 13 hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. At the plate, Andrew Drummond collected a team-high three hits on the day including a double. Travis Frantz drove in a team-leading three RBI with a single and a double and Edwin Rodriguez had a homerun in the game.
