The HU women's basketball
team (4-0) continues to roll through the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 66-54 road win over Siena Heights University (0-1) on Saturday.
It was the first game for the Saints but they didn't allow opening game jitters to prevail as they knocked down back-to-back threes to jump out to an early 6-2 lead. Sarah Miller, Allison Greene and Lauren Meese each netted a long ball over the next four minutes to give HU a two-point lead, 12-10, with fourteen minutes left in the half. The next nine minutes were relatively quiet as each team struggled to create much offensively. With the Saints up 19-18 with just over five minutes left in the half, Taylor Foley scored in the paint to spark a 11-4 run that put HU on top 29-23 at the 1:15 mark. The Saints scored on back-to-back possessions to trim HU's lead to two by intermission.
Greene opened the half with her second long trey of the evening to push the Foresters' lead back to five, 32-27, but the Saints didn't seem phased as their aggressive play kept them within striking distance. The Foresters enjoyed a 48-41 lead midway through the half but Siena Heights reeled off seven unanswered points to knot the score at 48-48 with just over six minutes to play. Sarah Miller then took matters into her own hands by knocking down back-to-back threes to ignite a 18-6 run to close out the game as the Foresters cruised to their fourth win of the season.
The Foresters were led by Miller's 18 points and three steals. Kelsey Green finished with 11 points and 12 boards to notch her first double double of the season. Foley chipped in 10 points. Shalaha Hubbard scored 10 points to lead the Saints.
The Foresters host the Northview Inn and Suites Classic this weekend. They take the court on Friday at 6:00 p.m. against Judson University.
