In their final regular season MCC conference game, the Forester softball
team came away with two solid wins against the Cougars of Saint Francis, 6-3, 7-1.
With the score tied 2-2 after two innings of play, the Foresters took charge in the third inning to score three runs on RBI-singles by Brita Kuiper and Megan Smith. HU added an unearned insurance run in the fifth and Saint Francis would get that back in the bottom of the sixth but it wouldn't be enough as the Foresters held on for the 6-3 win.
Molly Long recorded the win for HU giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five. The Foresters finished with four hits from four different players. Melissa Werling collected a game-high two RBI.
In the nightcap, the Foresters made the most of their eight hits to score seven runs while holding Saint Francis to a single run. After grabbing the early 1-0 lead in the first, Katie Bowers recorded her seventh round-tripper of the year in the top of the third to put the Foresters on top 2-0. After being hit by a pitch to start the fourth, Smith plated HU's first run of the inning when Abby Dilling knocked her in with a double to second. Melissa Werling then finished the rally with an RBI-single that resulted in two more runs to push HU's lead to five. Kuiper then added two insurance runs with her RBI-single in the seventh before the Cougars got one back in the bottom of their frame to close out the game.
Long picked up her thirteenth win of the season allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out five. Kuiper had two hits and two RBI to lead HU at the plate while Kate Dwyer added two hits and an RBI.
