The Foresters (10-21, 6-8) got key contributions from several players to sweep Goshen College with 4-2 and 12-3 victories.
In game one, Kaley Fode had a big game at the plate. She got HU on the board in the top of the first with a two-run blast to right and then doubled to deep center to drive in her third run of the game in the top of the sixth. Lauren Ward went the distance on the mound for the Foresters with a complete-game five-hitter and she struck out seven. Ward also helped herself with a homerun in the top of the seventh. Kendra Stahl led HU with three singles in the 4-2 win.
In the second game, Goshen took the early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. It took the Forester offense a little time to get going, but Mindi Ahl jump-started HU in the top of the fourth. With one swing of the bat, Ahl erased the three-run deficit with the first grand slam of her career. The Foresters manufactured another run in the inning with a single and stolen base from Elissa Bridges and an RBI single by Brittany Gower to take a 5-3 lead. HU added three more runs in the fifth to push the lead to 8-3 and then added an insurance run in the sixth and another three in the seventh.
Ashley Scally, who came on in relief of Stahl in the third, picked up the win for HU. She shut down the Maple Leaf offense over the final five innings of play allowing no runs and giving up four hits and a walk while striking out three. Ahl finished the game with two hits and five RBI to lead the Forester offense. Fode added two hits and drove in three more runs and Jenna Pangle went 2-4 and had two RBI.
