Huntington, Ind. - Despite committing three errors in each game, the Foresters capped off the week with two wins, 4-2 and 5-2, against Spring Arbor University on Saturday afternoon. With these wins, the Foresters move to 19-1 on the season, 9-1 in conference play.
After holding the Cougars hitless through the first five innings of play, Molly Long gave up three hits in the final two innings to escape with the win, striking out eight and giving up one earned run as the Foresters cruised to the 4-2 win.
Offensively, Brita Kuiper got HU on the board in the second frame with a two-run dinger. Katie Knous ripped a solo shot over the center field wall in the third to push HU's lead to 3-0 and the Foresters tacked on a run in the fourth. The Cougars kept things interesting by scoring a run apiece in the final two innings but their rally came up short as HU cruised to the win.
Seven different Foresters finished with a hit apiece as HU outhit the Cougars 7-3. Kuiper's homer led the way with two RBI and a run scored.
Abby Dilling remained unbeaten on the season by picking up the 5-2 win in the nightcap. In five innings of work, she gave up two runs, neither earned, on four hits and one walk while striking out seven.
After Spring Arbor pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead, the Foresters' bats came to life as they answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Lindsay Shellabarger sparked the rally with a lead-off single and eventually touched home on a Melissa Werling double. Allison Greene smacked a single, Brandi Gower had a run-scoring hit and after a passed ball that allowed Greene to waltz home, Knous smashed an RBI-triple to push HU's lead to 4-2. Katie Bowers then closed out the scoring with an RBI-groundout for the Foresters' fifth run of the inning.
Marcie McDougle held the Cougars scoreless over the final two innings giving up two hits while striking out three to secure the Forester win.
The Foresters are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Marian University for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
