HU opens up golf season at IWU Invitational

MARION, Ind. - It was a rough start for the Forester golf team as they sat in last place after day one of the Indiana Wesleyan University Fall Invitational but Coach Green’s squad bounced back on Tuesday to outshot their closest opponent by 21 strokes to jump up a spot by day’s end.

Huntington shot 657 (337, 220) as a team to finish ninth out of ten.

Devin Dale (78, 81) and Ryan Boester (82, 77) each shot a 15-over-par 159 to pace their team and finish in a tie for 25th. Just one stroke behind was Lance Hoch (82, 78) with a 160 good for 29th while Derek Zurcher carded a 179 (95, 84) for 60th place to round out HU’s scoring.

Indiana Wesleyan won the invitational with a 602 followed by Grand Rapids Community College (606), Bethel (614), Mount Vernon (625), Spring Arbor (626), Taylor (628), Saint Francis (632), Grace (657), HU (657) and Olivet Nazarene (672).

The Foresters (1-8) are back in action on Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Battle at Blackhorn hosted by Bethel College.
