Fort Wayne, Ind. – With the regular season coming to an end, the Forester women’s soccer team not only inched closer to solidifying a top four finish in the conference standings, they also made school history by notching the program’s first ten-win regular season with a 1-0 win over the University of Saint Francis on Saturday afternoon.

In a defensive battle in which only 11 shots were taken, seven of which belonged to HU, the Foresters came up with gold in the 14th minute thanks to the foot of Erin Barclay. After beating her defender, Barclay placed a shot over the head of the Cougar keeper for what proved to be game’s only score.

HU keeper Sam Barclay was credited with her seventh shutout win of the season. She finished with three saves.

"This was a great win for us today,” said Coach Burgher. “All three of our captains and our leading goal scorer were out (Sam Cubic, Jessie Turnow, Claire Creasy and Brittany Hartman) and we knew it was going to be a battle, but this shows what type of team we have. Our girls want the chance to step up, to be the difference maker."

"We were on a two-game losing streak and really needed to get back on track. The girls understood that and came in with a focus and intensity today that was refreshing to see. We had an important team meeting this past week after the SAU game and I feel like the girls wanted to respond well after that. Well today was the best response I could have got from them. Their effort, fight and heart was at such a high level there is nothing to question."

Currently sitting third in the MCC, Huntington (10-4-3, 4-2-2) wraps up its regular season on Tuesday when they host Marian University at 4:00 p.m. With a win against the Knights and a Grace tie or loss, the Foresters would clinch second place in the MCC regular season standings.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 53 NAIA All-America honors and 187 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
