HU heads into Christmas break with a win

Freshman guard Lauren Meese scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Foresters (9-3) to a 71-49 win over the Panthers of Ohio Dominican University.

Things were tight through the early stages of the contest with five ties through the first five minutes of play. The next ten minutes remained close with neither team taking more than a four-point lead. Finally with the Foresters up 22-21 with just under five minutes left in the half, HU took advantage of four Panther turnovers to put together an 8-2 run to take a 30-23 lead into intermission. For the half, the Foresters connected on 5-for-11 from behind the arc for 45.5%.

The Foresters picked up where they left off to start the second half by outscoring the Panthers 7-1 in the first three minutes of play. The Foresters showed great patience on offense, working the ball to get the open shot and forcing Ohio Dominican to switch from zone defense to man-to-man. After knocking down a long three at the 9:06 mark that cut HU's lead to 50-40, it looked like the Panthers were poised to make a run. However, after a quick timeout, Ryleigh Carr completed a traditional three-point play to squelch any Panther hope for a comeback. The Foresters went on to outscore Ohio Dominican 18-9 to close out the game.

Joining Meese in double figures was Jenna Donaldson with 16 while Courtney Beerbower and Sarah Miller each chipped in 13. Tracy Snider was the lone Panther to score in double digits with 13 points.

The stat of the game for HU was a 25-2 advantage in free throw attempts for the game. The Foresters knocked down 22 of them for 88.0%. HU forced the Panthers into 27 turnovers while only committing 17.
