HU headed to Grand Rapids for national tournament

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Huntington University softball team (31-21) learned Tuesday night that they will be packing their bags for Grand Rapids, Mich. at Davenport University to compete in the 2014 NAIA National Championship Opening Round slated for May 12-14.

As the Crossroads League tournament runner-up, HU received the conference’s second automatic bid to compete in the tournament and earned the program’s first-ever berth to the big dance.

The format for the opening round is a double-elimination, four-team tournament at each of the ten host sites. The ten winners from each site will punch their ticket for the 34th annual NAIA Softball World Series in Columbus, Georgia from May 23 through May 29.

Huntington received the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) (46-3-1) on May 12 at 3:00 p.m.
