Huntington, Ind. - Avenging a loss from earlier this season, the No. 19 Forester men's basketball team (20-7, 8-5) disposed of the Bethel College Pilots (13-15, 3-11) 90-76 in Tuesday night's MCC clash.
In a game that featured no lead changes and one tie, HU dominated play from opening tip-off to make quick work of a beat-up Pilot squad. Huntington jumped out to a double digit lead five minutes into the contest and went on to enjoy their largest lead of the half, 29-11, at the 9:09 mark after holding the Pilots scoreless for over three minutes.
Kellen Zawadzki had a break out first half, scoring 22 points, 18 of which came from behind the arc, to give the Foresters a 49-35 halftime lead. As a team, HU shot 55.9 percent (19-for-34) for the period while holding the Pilots to 38.2 percent (13-for-34).
The second half was more of the same as HU stretched the lead to 23 at 64-41 four minutes into the period behind Tyler Shively's seven points. Shively and Zawadzki along with Shane Merryman and Chris Kent combined to score 36 of the Foresters' 41 second half points. The Pilots would get no closer than 14 points as HU's efficiency on the offensive end proved to be too much to overcome.
Zawadzki paced Huntington with 32 points, six rebounds and five assists. Shively finished with 21 points, a game-high nine boards and seven assists. Merryman and Kent chipped in 14 and 13 points respectively. Caleb Laidig tossed in 19 points to lead the Pilots. Ryan Benner and Patrick Oetting each scored 11 points to round out Bethel's double digit scoring. Box Score
