HU comes up empty at Cardinal Stritch Tourney

 The Forester volleyball team traveled to Cardinal Stritch University for a Labor Day tournament and came home empty handed dropping four games.

In Friday's first contest against Concordia University, the first game came down to the wire with the Falcons outlasting HU 25-23. Concordia went on to earn the next two wins 25-9, 25-21 to claim the victory. Rebekah Brown took charge at the net for the Foresters recording 13 kills. Emilie Jamison dished out 24 assists while Denise Lehman finished with 12 digs.

Against host Cardinal Stritch later that night, the Foresters struggled in game one 25-15 but held on to a lead through much of the second game before eventually succumbing to the Wolves 25-22. The final game proved to be just as exciting as the Foresters grabbed a 19-11 lead before the Wolves stormed back to steal the 28-26 win. Lehman and Melissa Grossman led a balanced attack with seven kills each while Jamison finished with 23 assists.

On Saturday morning the Foresters took on Davenport University and were downed in straight sets, 25-11, 25-17, 25-18. Leading the Foresters was Brown with seven kills and seven digs.

In the final match of the tourney, the Foresters met up with William Penn University. After dropping the first two games 25-19, 26-24, HU showed plenty of grit and determination by earning a hard-fought 25-23 win in game three. The Foresters ran out of steam in game four as the Statesmen cruised to a 25-13 win. Lehman and Kaylee Searles came up big for the Foresters with 15 and ten kills respectively. Also making their presence known at the net were Courtney Berger with nine kills and Grossman with eight. Jamison dished out 40 assists in the final game of the day.

Rebekah Brown was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Foresters' records stands at 1-7. They host Goshen College in their season opener on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
