After a string of disappointing conference losses, the Forester softball
team (14-16, 8-6) got back on track by sweeping the Lancers of Grace College, 6-0, 3-0.
HU got more than enough muscle from Aubrey Garner and Katie Bowers as they each hammered out two homeruns in the opening game to lead the Foresters to a 6-0 win. After a quiet two innings, the Forester bats came alive as they scored at least one run in each of the next four innings. HU's defense also got the job done as they never allowed a Lancer to advance beyond second base.
Molly Long notched the win on the mound for HU giving up two hits and no walks while striking out five. Garner finished with three hits and a game-high three RBI to pace the Foresters at the plate.
Long picked up where she left off recording her second win of the day in the nightcap. She hurled a no-hitter in seven innings of work and finished with seven strike-outs. The Foresters collected eight hits on the game and picked up a run in each of the middle three innings to quietly take control and cruise to the 3-0 victory. Garner and Bowers took charge at the plate to finish with two hits apiece.
The Foresters are back in action on Thursday when they host Manchester in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. In addition to being Senior Day, the team will be wearing pink wristbands to support breast cancer research and awareness programs. The team is also organizing a canned food drive so fans are encouraged to show their support by bringing canned food items to the game.
