The Forester men's
and women's track
teams opened their indoor season at the Joe Banks Invitational at Ohio Northern University on Friday with both teams finishing third in the team standings.
In women's action, Josann Schoeff sprinted to a first place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.42. She also picked up a bronze in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.26. Cendall Ogle was the top finisher in the 1,000 with a time of 3:11.25. Holly Lutton placed second in the pole vault (8-00.25) and third in the 60 meter hurdles (10.16). Rounding out HU's top three finishes was Mariah Town who finished second in long jump with a leap of 15-01.25.
Ohio Northern won the event with a team score of 205 followed by Findlay (173) and HU (62).
On the men's side, Joseph Herber had a strong showing to lead HU. His 8:44.45 time in the 3,000 not only earned him first place honors but qualified him for the NAIA Indoor Nationals in March. He also ran to a second place finish in the 1,000 with a time of 2:41.56. Other top three finishers were Chad Shellabarger who was third in the 500 with a time of 1:12.54 and Lance Wood who was third in the mile with a time of 4:34.18.
The University of Findlay finished first with a team score of 244 followed by Ohio Northern (207) and HU (83.50).
“This is a pretty good start for our season," commented Coach King. "This certainly helps us know what we need to be doing the next several weeks.”
