HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The HU men’s tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to No. 13 Aquinas College Friday afternoon in its spring season opener at Klopfenstein Tennis Courts.
The Saints entered the match having already piled up 14 wins since February against one loss to overpower the Foresters.
The Foresters started out strong as they snagged two of the three doubles matches before the Saints took control of singles play. HU’s No. 1 duo of Vlad Khudziy and Augusto Velez picked up where they left off this fall as they outlasted Aquinas’ combo of Aaron Hendrick and Nik Artaey 9-8. Jose Hungria teamed up with Zakk Sparks at the No. 2 spot to hand Travis Wolf and Kyle Masteller an 8-6 loss.
Velez was the lone Forester to come away with a singles win. He beat Artaey in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at #2 singles.
HU take the courts again on Saturday to face Davenport University.
