Silvis, Ill. - Playing in the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, for the second time in three years, the Huntington University golf team finished 23rd out of 29 teams to close the books on one of the best seasons in Forester history.

As has been the case across the Midwest, the weather did not cooperate as rains forced numerous delays through the tournament to make for some long sloppy days of golf. After finding themselves in 27th place after shooting a 316 in first round action, the Foresters scratched and clawed their way back to move up four spots in the team standings after 36 holes by shooting a 311.

Huntington shot four strokes better in round three of the Championships with a 307 but it wasn't enough to propel them any higher in the team standings as they remained in 23rd place. With only the top 17 teams making the cut for today's final round, their season came to an end for all of them but one.

The top 40 individuals also qualify for the final round and at twelve-over-par, HU's Jordan Dawes was the lone Forester to make the cut. He teed up earlier this morning tied for 36th.

Dawes paced the Foresters with a 225 (78-73-74). Cory Powell finished with a twenty-over-par 233 (79-76-78) and Seth Robertson turned in a 239 (75-81-83). Josh Teulker (87-81-76) and Matt Wilson (84-81-79) both shot a 244 to round out HU’s scoring.

Oklahoma Christian took control of the tournament yesterday by firing a one-under-par 283 in the third round to lead the field by 23 shots. Oklahoma Christian Oscar Stark remains atop the leader board as the only player in the 157-player field under par with a six-under-par 207.

The final results will be available later today on the NAIA Golf Championship website.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 53 NAIA All-America honors and 173 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
