TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Running against the likes of IU and Purdue over the weekend at the Indiana Intercollegiates at Indiana State University, the 21st-ranked HU women’s cross country team finished 12th out 26 teams with 214 points while the men’s squad finished 15th out of 27 teams with 467 points.
Of the 11 teams that finished ahead of the Forester women, seven were NCAA Division I and two were NCAA Division II. Among the Little State competition which included 18 non-Division I schools, HU finished fifth with 107 points.
Gretchen Spahr was the first Forester to cross the finish line in 19:18. She finished 40th overall, ninth among the Little State competition. Hannah Moore ran a 19:43 to finish 61st overall and not far behind was Krista Wood who ran to a 62nd finish in 19:46.
Also finishing under 20 minutes was Erin Rockey who ran a 19:55 good for 70th place. Cendall Ogle rounded out HU’s scoring with 77th place in 20:07.
Other finishers for Huntington included Natalie Spahr (84th, 20:19), Miranda Boyts (114th, 20:47), Amanda Henningfield (166th, 22:21), Brittani Florian (23:17) and Alyssa Haselby (24:06).
On the men’s side, nine of the 14 teams that finished ahead of HU were either NCAA Division I or II. Among the Little State competition, the Foresters claimed eighth place with 148 points.
Tyler Herber led the HU pack with a time of 26:56 which placed him 72nd overall, 27th among his non-Division 1 competition. On his heels was Lance Wood who finished 75th in 27:07 while Josh Graham crossed the line in 27:38 for a 98th place finish. Running within four seconds of each other was Brian Menzie (138th, 28:28) and Antonio Castillo (141st, 28:32).
Other Huntington runners included Ethan Medley (182nd, 30:00), Alan Huffman (198th, 31:42) and Matt Bittner (204, 32:52).
The Foresters have a two-week break from competition before heading to the Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota.
