Foresters chop down Maple Leafs

Riding a four-game winning streak, the Huntington softball team (11-11, 5-1) easily disposed of host Goshen College, 10-0 and 11-3, on Saturday.

The Foresters wasted no time taking control of game one by plating four runs in both the first and second innings. Bowers' RBI-double ignited the Foresters' first inning scoring fest and then back-to-back singles by Brita Kuiper and Jeanine Vaszari along with a little help from two Maple Leaf errors and a passed ball gave HU the early 4-0 lead. The Foresters continued to take advantage of Goshen's pitching and ensuing misplays as they scored four more runs in the second inning with the only hit of the inning going to Aubrey Garner. HU tossed in two more insurance runs in the top of the fourth as they cruised to the 10-0 victory in five innings of work.

Molly Long picked up the win for HU giving up only one hit and no walks while striking out three. Garner collected two hits and an RBI for the Foresters. Bowers and Kate Dwyer each finished with two RBI.

The Foresters continued to dominate in the second game as they grabbed the early 1-0 lead after their first at-bats and then exploded for six runs in the third to give HU the 7-0 advantage. Garner and Kuiper both recorded RBI-singles in the innings but it was Bowers' three-run blast that gave HU command of the game. Bowers tacked on two more insurance runs in the fourth with an RBI-single. Goshen finally got on the board with two runs in the fifth and then both teams traded runs in the sixth as the Foresters completed their sweep over the Maple Leafs with the 11-3 win.

Long recorded her second win of the day allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four. Bowers came up big at the plate with three hits and six RBI. Garner and Dwyer each collected two hits and an RBI.
