Crusaders edge Foresters in final minutes of play

In their home opener, the Huntington men’s soccer team fell prey to the visiting Crusaders of Madonna University 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, HU notched the first point of the game on a counter where Nick Bunting capped off a long dribble by slotting it past the keeper to put the Forester up 1-0. The Crusaders answered back less than three minutes later by taking advantage of a defensive breakdown on a restart to knot the score at 1-1.

The momentum seemed to favor the Foresters during the last 25 minutes of play as they mounted several impressive attacks but it was Madonna who came up big in the last two minutes of play. After a Crusader shot on goal that wasn’t handled cleanly, David Ujkic found the loose ball in the box for the game winner.

With the loss, the Foresters drop to 0-2 on the season. The Foresters are back in action on September 3 when they take on Cornerstone University at the University of Saint Francis Classic.
