Creasy continuing her soccer career at HU

The Huntington University women’s soccer team took a huge step on Thursday when the highly recruited Mercer Area High School all-time leading scorer, Claire Creasy, committed to the Foresters for the 2010 season.

Creasy, a four-year varsity starter and three-year captain, comes from Mercer Area High School in Mercer, PA. She graduated from Mercer as the all-time leading scorer, male or female, with 105 goals. In her 2008 season Creasy was named the Co-Regional Player of the Year. In her 2009 season Creasy left her mark on the Mercer program as she broke the single season scoring record with 36 goals and was named the 2009 Region Player of the Year. Creasy was also named First Team All-Region in basketball and was a state qualifier in both the 300 hurdles and the 200 meters.

In addition to her athletic involvement, Creasy has also been very involved in her community and school. She is a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Renovate Youth Group, National Honor Society and the Spanish and Latin Club. She is also a seventh grade mentor and a middle school math tutor.

Creasy, an Exercise Science major, chose Huntington because, “It is a small, close knit community. The people at Huntington are awesome and clearly living for the Lord. It’s what I want to be a part of next year,” said Creasy. “I am most excited about playing soccer while growing in my faith with the Lord. I am excited to experience a new aspect of life at Huntington.”

“Claire incorporates everything we are looking for. She is a fantastic athlete and just an overall great girl. The main thing that stuck out to me in the recruiting process was the humbleness that Claire had about everything she has done. I am so excited to have her join our family,” said HU head coach Ryan Burgher. “From an athletic stand point, getting a finisher like Claire is huge for us. I don’t care what level you are at, 105 goals is impressive and not easy to do. It’s no secret we had issues scoring last year and we are looking to Claire to help us resolve that problem.”

Claire is the daughter of Max and Debi Creasy.
