Burgher adds Barclay

Huntington University women’s soccer coach Ryan Burgher continues to bolster his first recruiting class with the addition of Sam Barclay, a senior from Western High School in Parma, Michigan. Barclay is the daughter of Kevin and Jill Barclay.
Barclay was a four-year starter for the Panthers. In her time at Western, Barclay was named All-Conference her freshman, sophomore and junior years. In her freshman year, she was named to the All-District Second Team and in her junior year campaign, was named the Conference Player of the Year. She also was the Panthers' leading scorer for the past two seasons.

As a club player Barclay has played with Jackson United, BAYSA and most recently has played with the Michigan Rush.

Barclay has also excelled in the classroom at Western. Her gpa is above a 3.6, which puts her consistently on the high honor roll. Barclay is also actively involved in the Spring Arbor Free Methodist youth group.

Entering Huntington as a recreation and sports ministry major, Barclay said, “I liked the campus and the atmosphere. I felt welcome when I came to visit. I’m just really excited to get to know all the girls on the team.”

“Sam has the potential to contribute to the squad right away," said Coach Burgher. "She has great skill and strength which is going to allow me to use her in different spots on the field. From the first time Sam came to practice with us you could tell she just fit well with our team. She understands the vision of where HU soccer is heading and she is the type of person that is going to add to that.”
