Lakeland High School standout, Brittney Bateman, has signed a Letter of Intent to continue her basketball career at Huntington University next fall. Bateman, a NECC First team All-Conference and Kendallville News-Sun All-Area selection as a sophomore and junior, appears to be headed for a three-peat midway through her senior season. Through nine games, she is averaging 12.6 points and 5.7 rebounds for the 7-2 Lakers who are 5-0 in NECC play. Bateman currently has accumulated 709 points and 259 rebounds to date in her career.
Bateman is equally adept in the classroom. She currently ranks fifth in her class and was one of ten Indiana finalists for the Wendy’s High School Heisman award that recognizes the nation’s most esteemed high school senior men and women for excellence in academics, community service, and athletics.
Huntington University basketball coach, Lori Culler, is looking forward to Bateman’s contributions to the team. “There are two attributes of Brittney’s game that immediately caught my eye, her physical play and her work ethic. You can never have too many players on your roster with those qualities. After watching her play a few times, you also see the potential she has at both ends of the floor. I expect Brittney to contribute immediately and to have an outstanding career here at Huntington.”
