Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College athletics department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of September 1-7, 2003. Women’s tennis junior Stacy Plett and men’s cross country runners Joseph Waithira and Cody Hannie earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.

Stacy Plett, a recreation management major from Rensselaer, Ind. (Rensselaer Central High School), led the Forester tennis squad to an 8-1 victory over St. Francis in the Mid-Central Conference opener of the season. Plett won the #4 singles match, 6-1, 6-1. In #2 doubles, she teamed with Lindsey Weber to blank St. Francis, 8-0. The Foresters are now 1-2 on the season, 1-0 in MCC action. Plett is also a member of the women's basketball team.

Joseph Waithira, a sophomore exercise science major from Nairobi, Kenya, and Cody Hannie, a freshman English education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), teamed together to finish sixth overall at the opening cross country meet of the season, Hokum Karem Invitational at Wabash College. This unique cross country race teams two members of a squad together in a relay. Each runner takes three laps around a one-mile loop, exchanging a baton with their teammate between each lap.
