Huntington University women’s soccer head coach Ryan Burgher has announced that Emily Abrams has signed a national letter of intent to continue her playing career at Huntington University this fall. Abrams hails from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is the first HU women’s soccer signing of the 2011 class.

Abrams, a four-year varsity starter, had a stellar high school career at Warren Central. In her senior season as a captain, Abrams was named First Team All-State, First Team All-District, First Team All-Marion County, All-State Academic and voted team MVP. She was also the leading goal scorer for the Warriors this past season.

Throughout her career at WCHS, Abrams has also been a two-time scholar athlete and All-Indy Star Marion County Team member. She was also a three-time member of the Marion County Coach’s All-County Team, voted Top Ten in Best of Show at NSPA, recognized as Warren Central’s Most Outstanding Defender as a freshman, and received All-Conference honors.

Having started her club career with F.C. Pride, Abrams is currently playing for Dynamo F.C. In 2009 Abrams led her club to a first place finish in the ISL. She also led her team to the 2009 Indiana State Cup Championship.

Off the field Abrams is a dedicated student carrying a 3.5 GPA. She’s also a TOPs volunteer (disabled children playing soccer), referee, high school newspaper editor-in-chief, member of the Latin Club, and member of the Junior Classical League.

Abrams, planning to major in graphic design or journalism, says, “I chose Huntington because it was everything I was looking for in a school. It's small and the campus is beautiful. The girls on the soccer team made me feel like I was already a part of the HU family. I don't think I could have found another university like HU.”

“The thing I'm excited most about is playing college soccer. It's always been a goal of mine to play and now I get the chance to do so. I'm blessed to get this kind of opportunity,” comments Abrams.

“Emily is one of the top players out of the Indy area in the 2011 class and we are really happy she’s decided to attend Huntington,” said Coach Burgher. “Emily is the type of player who has the potential to make an immediate impact for us. She is a great girl and a lot of fun to have around. She is going to fit in great with our family here at Huntington.”

Abrams is the daughter of Michael and Shelley Abrams.
