Huntington, Ind.—The 2002-03 Huntington College men’s and women’s basketball media guides recently received top-ten awards from the NAIA-SIDA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics-Sports Information Directors of America). The NAIA-SIDA voted the Forester men’s guide as fourth best in the country in the men’s basketball brochure division and the Forester women’s guide as eighth best in the country in the women’s basketball brochure division.
The 2002-03 basketball media guides were produced by the Huntington College Public Relations and Sports Information offices and printed by Modern Graphics in Peru, Indiana. Bethany Doyle, Public Relations Coordinator at the College, created and structured the layout, design and content for the guides with assistance from Lori Culler, Sports Information Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach. Art student Amanda Hamblin designed the men’s cover while Josh Walker designed the women’s cover.
The 2002-03 men’s Forester basketball team, coached by Steve Platt, finished in a tie for first in the Mid-Central Conference and won the MCC Tournament. They earned a way to the NAIA National Tournament, where they advanced to the Elite Eight. The Foresters finished the season with a 29-8 record while producing three All-Americans in senior Adam Hill, junior Ryan Thwaits and sophomore Justin Riegsecker. The upcoming men’s basketball season will get underway on Saturday, November 1, when the Foresters host IU-Southeast at 4 p.m.
The women’s Forester basketball team finished with a 13-16 record and in a tie for fifth in the MCC. Senior Sarah Gordon earned second-team All-MCC honors and averaged 19.7 points per game, leading the MCC in scoring from start to finish. She broke school records in most three-point field goals in a season (90) and most three-point field goals made in a career (261). Coach Lori Culler recorded her 300th career victory on February 19, at Taylor University. The upcoming women’s basketball season will get underway on Saturday, November 8, when the Foresters host Urbana at 3 p.m.
