Up against #19-ranked Madonna University, the Forester softball
team competed well but couldn't get their bats going as they dropped a pair to the Crusaders, 1-0 and 6-3.
After two scoreless innings, the Crusaders pieced together two singles sandwiched between an HU throwing error to score the only run of the game in the top of the third. Pitching dominated the remainder of the game as both teams combined for only four hits in the final four and a half innings of play.
Molly Long took the loss for HU limiting Madonna to five hits and no earned runs while striking out seven. Brita Kuiper registered the only hit for the Foresters.
In the nightcap, the Foresters found themselves down 3-0 after three and a half innings of play but after Katie Bowers singled to center, Kuiper blasted one over the center field fence to pull the Foresters within one. The Crusaders answered with three runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away.
Stacie Rawnsley registered the loss for HU, giving up six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three. Bowers and Brandi Gower each finished with two hits to lead the Foresters at the plate.
