Share the Love Food Drive benefits area food banks

Huntington, Ind.—STAR 88.3, the Associated Churches of Allen County and Huntington University are sponsoring the Share the Love Food Drive “Mini-Tour” on Oct. 5-10.

Students from Huntington University’s Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service and Student Admissions Staff will assist with the mini-tour.

Food items will be given to the Associated Churches of Allen County with the exception of donations in Warsaw and Huntington where donations will be sent to food banks in those communities. The Associated Churches of Allen County serves 75,000 individuals with 728,980 meals each year. The organization hosts 28 food bank locations throughout Allen County. Each family served by the Associated Churches receives a five-day supply of food and can return for more every 30 days.

Each Wal-Mart destination will allow those who donate to enter a drawing with the chance to win four “meet-and-greet” passes to meet the Newsboys at the “Reach” event at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. No tickets are needed for “Reach.” A suggested donation of $10 will be taken at the door, although no one will be turned away for the inability to give. Organizers also will collect nonperishable food items for the Associated Churches Food Bank at the event.
