Huntington, Ind. — The Huntington University Department of
Nursing and the Huntington County Department of Health will host a flu shot clinic from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 in the university’s nursing lab, located on the lower level of the Science Hall in Room 074.
The cost is $20 for adults and $5 for children 18 years and younger. A free nasal mist also will be offered to children 18 years and younger. The vaccination includes the H1N1 strain.
This is the fourth year that the university and the health department have teamed up to offer a flu shot clinic for the community.
“The health department was looking for a location that we could open up to the community,” said Debra Doctor, public health nurse for the health department. “And Huntington University has nursing students that could benefit from practicing their immunization skills. It helps us speed up the process to get a lot more people done in a shorter amount of time.”
The health department will provide the vaccines, the supplies and the registration forms. Under the supervision of nursing faculty, the junior nursing students will administer the vaccinations.
“We will have six stations where the shots will be given, so we should be able to move people through in a fairly timely manner,” said Dr. Margaret Winter, HU nursing program director.
No appointment is needed, but those who plan to attend are asked to register in advance by calling (260) 359-4370 or by e-mailing htester@huntington.edu.
Cash or checks are accepted. Checks may be made payable to the Huntington County Health Department.
