HUNTINGTON, Ind. — More space in Huntington University’s LifeSpring Counseling Center means the opportunity to serve more clients, thanks to a donation from the Huntington County Medical Society (HCMS).

The HCMS, a collaboration of local doctors, supports multiple organizations in the community each year. The $10,000 donation from the organization will allow for the construction of two new counseling rooms in the center.

“I have several patients who come (to LifeSpring), and I appreciate the services they can get here for free,” said Dr. Theppanya Keolasy, a family doctor at Parkview FirstCare in Huntington and a member of HCMS who helped make the donation possible.

Located on HU’s campus, LifeSpring is a fully functioning clinic operated by the graduate counseling program. No fee is charged for services offered at the clinic.

“This is a great opportunity for students to get experience,” Keolasy said. “It’s real life. It’s not a classroom. It’s not a textbook.”

Construction to the lower level of the clinic began this summer. The renovations will add two rooms to the five existing counseling rooms and allow for more accessibility for people with disabilities.

“This donation is truly a blessing,” said Dr. Jerry Davis, director of the graduate counseling program.

LifeSpring currently serves more than 90 individuals, couples and children with 300 appointments each month.
