HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Dr. Todd Martin will present on “Women and Katherine Mansfield’s Divided Self” for the Huntington University Forester Lecture Series at 7 p.m. April 15 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Martin is a professor of English at Huntington University.

The lecture will look at Mansfield’s life as a divided self who never escaped her middle class upbringing yet also embraced the freedom brought on by emancipation. According to Martin’s abstract on the lecture, “This notion is manifest in that several of her short stories mock the artist’s life and even suggest a sympathy for the stability of domestic life.”

Martin recently has published a version of the lecture in the Journal of New Zealand Literature and has worked as a co-editor of a forthcoming collection of essays, “Katherine Mansfield and World War One.” He has published several other articles on Mansfield and has presented his research at several international conferences on Mansfield, including France, England and New Zealand.

The Forester Lecture Series is designed to bring interesting persons and topics to the attention of students and the regional community.

The Forester Lecture Series at Huntington University is coordinated by Dr. David Alexander, associate professor of philosophy. For more information, contact Alexander at 260-359-4305 or visit www.huntington.edu/fls.
