Coronation Opens Homecoming Weekend

Jester and Summersett crowned H.C. royalty

HUNTINGTON, IN OCTOBER 4, 1996 --- Huntington College held its annual Homecoming Coronation on Friday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Forest Glen Park. Seniors Troy Jester and Tonya Summersett were crowned homecoming king and queen.

Troy Jester is a youth ministry major from Clarklake, Michigan. Troy has served as a resident assistant and has played varsity soccer for Huntington College. He also enjoys basketball and golf. In 1995-96, he participated in a volunteer service trip to Jamaica. After graduating from Huntington College next May, Troy plans to pursue a career in youth ministry. He is the son of David and Debra Jester of Clarklake.

Tonya Summersett is a psychology major from Convoy, Ohio. Tonya has been an active member of the Huntington College chapel worship team and varsity volleyball squad. Her hobbies include singing with the Christian alternative rock band, Lucid. Upon completing her studies at Huntington College, she plans to attend graduate school, then work in the inner-city of Chicago or New York. She is the daughter of Gary and Judy Painter of Convoy.

Others representing the senior class were:

  • Aaron LaTurner, a psychology major from Decatur, Indiana. He is the son of George and Sandra LaTurner.
  • Scott Miller, an accounting major from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is the son of Steven and Sharon Miller.
  • Sam Ward, an English and theater double major from Darlington, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Paul and Lois Ward.
  • Olivia McElhaney, a psychology major from Marion, Indiana. She is the daughter of William and Joetta McElhaney.
  • Braden Woods, a graphic design major from Worthington, Ohio. She is the daughter of Robert and Pamela Woods.
  • Susan Torrenga, an exercise science major from DeMotte, Indiana. She is the daughter of David and Ruth Torrenga.

Representing the junior class were:

  • Jon Wilhite, an exercise science major from Kouts, Indiana. He is the son of Michael and Cheryl Wilhite.
  • Jennifer Keil, an elementary education major from Rome City, Indiana. She is the daughter of Ed and Judy Keil.

Representing the sophomore class were:

  • Matt Campbell, a chemistry and mathematics double major from Worthington, Ohio. He is the son of Gary and Judy Campbell.
  • Tamar Smith, a youth ministries major from Flint, Michigan. She is the daughter of Lester and Linda Smith.


Representing the freshman class were:

  • Brently Jordan, an educational ministries from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. He is the son of David and Tricia Jordan.
  • Amy Bechtel, an elementary education major from Goshen, Indiana. She is the daughter of Devon and LaVerda Bechtel.

This year’s homecoming theme is "99 years and growing…" Huntington College was founded in 1897 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. For 100 years, Huntington College has offered high-quality academic programs "to equip men and women to impact our world for Christ." Located on a contemporary wooded campus in Huntington, Indiana, the four-year liberal arts college offers graduate and undergraduate programs in nearly 50 academic concentrations.
