Recipients of the Huntington University PEER AWARD for the month of May are Dr. Matthew Ruiz and Molly Edgel.
Cindy Geders passed the PEER AWARD to Dr. Matthew Ruiz. Matthew is the associate professor of exercise science. In recognizing Matthew, Cindy writes “Matthew has accomplished many great things since he has arrived at Huntington University in the fall of 2006, but I am personally most grateful for the program he launched a few years ago in which faculty and staff members have the opportunity to work with a senior exercise science major as a personal trainer. This program is making a tremendous difference in my life and those of my colleagues as we pursue healthier life choices. Thank you, Matthew, for creating this win-win for the campus community, and for helping faculty and staff to accomplish their personal best.”
Danielle Shafer passed the PEER AWARD to Molly Edgel. Molly serves as the financial aid counselor. In recognizing Molly, Danielle writes, “Molly is a gift to this campus. She works hard to assist the needs of current and prospective students. Those that know Molly love being around her. She radiates joy and greets everyone with a smile. Additionally, Molly is intentional to invest in the lives of our students. She mentors three of my residents in Hardy Hall, and I’m so grateful for her involvement in their lives. It is with great honor that I pass the Peer Award to my colleague and friend, Molly Edgel!”

About our Peer Award Program
The focus of the PEER AWARD is to promote acknowledgement and recognition of the outstanding efforts of faculty and staff members. Award winners will be chosen and recognized each month by fellow peers. A traveling award will be presented each month. Each recipient will also receive a special, personalized award to keep. Two awards will be presented each month. The award winners from the previous month will choose a winner to recognize at the beginning of the next month.
The award winner should be a faculty or staff member who has had an impact on you personally or professionally during the month. Items to consider include; motivation, inspiration, spiritual leadership, extraordinary effort in helping with job duties, etc. The award began in December of 2003 with the previous academic year's Professor of the Year and Staff Member of the Year. However, the awards should not necessarily stay divided between faculty and staff. The PEER AWARD is intended to mingle between the lines and cross all departments.
Full-time and part-time employees are eligible for PEER AWARD consideration. The senior leadership team is not eligible for the award.
The award may not be passed to a member within the same department as the current winner (ex. Polly Tribolet cannot pass the award to Becky Lyons). The award may not be passed to a member of the same family.
A variety of avenues may be used to promote and notify the campus of the award winners, including: campus email, Campus Bulletin, Coffey Break, FUSE plug, Huntingtonian, Celebration of Service appreciation dinner, and/or recognition on this website. Keep a look out at the beginning of each month for the PEER AWARD winners.
