Merillat Complex (PLEX)

HU recently completed $1.5 million in projects at the PLEX. These include: new bleachers in the gymnasium, replacement of outdoor track, new weight training and physical fitness equipment, upgrades to exercise and weight-training rooms, and improvements to the soccer complex (i.e. new dugouts, press box, and drainage system).

The Merillat Complex Facilities Task Force has initiated another $2.9 million multi-phase renovation for the Merillat Complex. After careful consideration of program/student needs, a new auxiliary gym was designated for the space that once housed the swimming pool in the Merillat Complex (PLEX).  This space will include a hardwood gym floor that will be lined for basketball and volleyball.  The basketball court dimensions will be 50' x 84' (regulation high school) and limited seating will be available as well. Much needed storage will be placed at the north end of the auxiliary gym and a few outside windows will be installed to allow for natural lighting. In addition to meeting the needs of intercollegiate athletics, aerobic and other types of movement classes will also benefit from another hardwood floor.

The expanding demands of a growing student body – coupled with the in-season and pre-season requirements of our intercollegiate teams – place incredible pressure on this outdated facility. These improvements will strengthen recruiting efforts and enable faculty, staff, and community members to take full advantage of University resources for health and fitness.

HU Forester Baseball

Forest Glen Park, home to the HU Foresters baseball team, is a real jewel. Located on the north end of campus off College Avenue (perimeter road), the ball diamond is nestled in a lovely wooded ravine.

Huntington has captured the Mid Central Conference regular season championship or conference tournament title more than 25 times, and continues to be a strong team. The Foresters have also had eight former players go on to careers in professional baseball.

We are grateful for the improvements that have been made to Forest Glen Park over the years. In the early 90’s lights were added to allow evening competitions, along with a new press box and concession area.

Although Forest Glen Park is considered one of the best facilities in our conference, more improvements are needed to maintain and enhance the park. These improvements include the addition of a restroom/ locker room facility, as well as new brick walls along the lines with an integrated dugout.

Your gift to the Forest Glen Park project will ensure a great baseball experience for players and fans alike. To learn more about HU Forester baseball, click here.
